[UMHC] : New year, same old hiking. Rhyd Ddu 5th Feb, Houseparty 3rd Feb

Happy new semester everyone!

Term has barely begun and already UMHC are sending plenty of spam via first class post direct to your inbox! As sad as you may be by the thought of going back to school to learn boring stuff again, the brightside is that there is loads of hiking fun starting again!

First off - the main event! Day hike to Snowdon (via Rhyd Ddu), Sunday 5th February.

The hikingmobile heads across the border to the dragon infested plains of Snowdonia, where we can climb the popular 1085 metres of Snowdon from the slightly less popular (but nicer?) wrong side. I've used up all of my usual flowerly superfluous adjectives in essays this month, so all I can say to describe the area is...really good.

How can you come along? Sign up starts today at the usual time of 12:30-13:30 Monday-Friday in a not-usual place...sign up has now moved to the new 1st floor of the Students' Union in the new activies centre. It's so new that even we don't know exactly where you can find us, so just follow the glow of the bright new hoodies we will be wearing. You better be quick before the trip sells out, or the committee collapses thanks to the fumes of just-dried-paint lingering everywhere.

Prices are still the same and the trip will cost £10 for members and £14 for non-members. Cheap as cheesy chips!

You will need to have the right gear, so bring warm clothes, waterproofs, lunch, water and wear hiking boots, check out our website at www.umhc.org.uk<http://www.umhc.org.uk> for more info. As ever, no jeans or trainers!

Spaces are limited for that social, but fear not, as none of us have any work to do this week (first week back, no excuses!) we have another social on Friday 3rd February! It is the second annual UMHC houseparty, which will be much the same as the first... According to last year's email that means there will be rings of fire, guitar hero, “some kind of food” and jelly! It is also our secretary's birthday so it will be twice as really good, and a great chance to catch up with hikers young and old after the xmas holiday! Finally, now it is the new year, the committee are getting grey haired and wrinkly, so we need replacements... If you're interested in helping out the club to continue running, and are up for learning a few new skills then please do get in touch as we begin to near the AGM to elect next year's committee. Maybe you think we are doing it alllllll wrong (i.e. "UMHC goes to Yorkshire way too much/little"), the club is entirely run by students so now is your chance to get involved and have your say!
